Shakir Is-Haq Waiz, a 2nd year Mathematics student, has been elected President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, following successful elections held on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.
He secured a total of 9,149 votes, representing 44.51% of the valid votes cast. His closest contenders, Benard Bosomah Yeboah and Jojo Reginald Gwira, polled 7,441 and 3,336 votes, respectively.
Shakir Is-Haq will assume office for the 2025/2026 academic year and will be supported by Vice President-elect Justice Atuahene Frimpong.
Other elected executives include Kekeli Woelinam as General Secretary, Samuel Oduro Donkor as Organiser, and Hezekiah Beckley Nutassey as Financial Secretary. Mavis Aning was elected Women’s Commissioner.
Together, the newly elected SRC leadership is expected to drive student-centred policies and foster inclusive representation across campus.
